We are York YEL!T (Youth Exposing Lies !N Tobacco), a group of 6 peer leaders living in Georgina. We are employed by York Region Health Services and are supported by Smoke-Free Ontario. Our Youth Action Alliance (YAA) Program began in November 2005.
As of September 2007 we have gone from 36 Health Units within the province to over 45 YAA’s. We hope to engage youth in local action to prevent smoking, encourage other youth to stop smoking and increase awareness and education of tobacco issues by:
(a) Reducing exposure to second-hand smoke
(b) Educating youth on the health effects of tobacco
(c) Denormalizing the tobacco industry
