Project YETI Bear
11/22/2007 -
"Project YETI Bear" has wrapped up for this Holiday Season 2007!YETI requested that stuffed toys in good condition were to be dropped off so that they can be donated to local organizations in Thunder Bay to be distributed to children around our community.
WHY is Project YETI Bear important?
The fact is that despite known risks of secondhand smoke (two thirds of a cigarette smoke enters the air as secondhand smoke, containing 4000 chemicals and 50 carcinogens), 2.4 million homes with children 12 years of age or younger are regularly exposed to it.
Children are more effected by secondhand smoke because:
-They are less likely to complain (either unable to or ignored)
-Cannot remove themselves from exposure
-Breath in more air relative to their body weight (therefore absorb more toxins)
-Immune system is not fully developed to fight illnesses
Quitting NOW for those currently pregnant reduces the risk of:
-Miscarriages
-Premature birth, low birth weight
-Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS)
Quitting NOW for parents with children reduces the risk of:
-Bronchitis
-Pneumonia
-Middle-ear Infection
-Irritating or worsening asthma
Quitting NOW will protect your child's health. Be a tobacco-free role model for your children. Setting the good example of not using tobacco industry products means that your child is 4 times less likely to smoke themselves.
If you continue to smoke please remember to be considerate of your children:
-Keep cars and small spaces smoke-free
-NEVER smoke in a child's bedroom
-Keep eating and playing areas smoke-free
-Ask visitors to follow these measures
-EVEN better ask everyone to smoke outside!
Remember that your body begins to heal itself from the time you quit smoking. The benefits to you and your child's health are priceless. If you would like to receive help to quit using tobacco industry products please use the following resources:
