Check out some of the recent events around Central West Ontario...

FRESH HEIR (Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit)

Who: The Haldimand-Norfolk Youth Action Alliance Peer Leaders

What: FlavourGONE "Cup n' Run"

- FLAVOUR GONE and FIGHT THE FLAVOUR messages were spelt in fences with red cups.

Where: Golden Gardens Park on Queen Street, Simcoe, Ontario & Haddington Street, Caledonia, Ontario.

When: June 24th 2009 - June 30th 2009

Why: To raise awarness in the community about the dangers of flavoured tobacco products.

FRESH HEIR (Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit)

Who: 23 Fresh Heir Peer Leaders and Volunteers

What: Random Freeze Mobs and a informational booth

Where: Port Dover Beach

When: June 13th 2009

Why: To raise awareness in the community and gain support for a ban on flavoured tobacco products. Also to get postcards signed and mailed to the government from community members in support of banning flavoured tobacco products.

REACT (Niagara Region Youth Action Alliance)

Who: 27 Niagra Peer Leaders and Volunteers

What: Various Forms of a Flash Mob

- letters on people's backs that spelled out "Support the Ban"

- stopped walking on busy sidewalks and line up so cars could read the message

- people held up signs that read "Flavoured tobacco is marketed to youth" and "Cancer shouldn't come in a candy wrapper."

- wrote messages with sidewalk chalk and handed out free promotional items

Where: 6 locations in the Niagra region at busy streets, parks and beaches

When: June 6th 2009

Why: To raise awareness in the community and gain support for a ban on flavoured tobacco products as well as get postcards signed and mailed to the government by community memebers who support a ban on flavoured tobacco products.

Y-ACT (Waterloo Region Youth Action Alliance)

Who: The Waterloo Region Youth Action Alliance

What: "Are You Afraid of the Dark?" Midnight Madness event for youth 11-14 years of age

- A flavourGONE "taste testing" game

- participants played games, watched movies and made skits

- participants played a "survivor-like" advocacy game

Where: Held at the local Z beside the Y community centre

When: May 29th 2009, 6pm to 12am

Why: Opened up discussions between youth and developed an awarness about flavoured tobacco products.
